_____ Why do I have to set my PC Date Settings?
Custrack
uses the date format routines
in Visual Basic to display and update the database. When the date setting in
the long date format of the US American date is used i.e. ’dddd, MMMM dd, yyyy’,
these routines fail and causes an error when data is retrieved from the
database. It is therefore imperative to set the long date to dd MMMM yyyy (Set
the Regional Settings language to English - South Africa).
_____ Why do
I need Microsoft Word?
To be able to create and send personalised
letters/documentation to individual as well as a group of selected clients.
_____ What
do I need to run Custrack from outside the office?
There are three methods of accessing Custrack externally:
1.

Internet Connectivity and/or Remote Access, Custrack Internet Server Module.

on the client and Windows 2000 SP 4 on the Server. |
_____ What hardware do I need
to run Custrack?
- Pentium, Recommended 600 MHz or higher
- 128 MB RAM Super VGA screen and card capable of resolution of 1024 by 768. 150
MB free disk space.
_____ What software do I need
to run Custrack?
- Microsoft Windows 2000/XP with
Microsoft Office 2003, with ODBC and drivers for Microsoft Access and SQL
Server Installed
- Microsoft Outlook with Messaging installed.
- Microsoft SQL Server version 2000 upwards with Microsoft SQL Client Licenses
to run the database and client access
- TCP/IP Protocol Installed and configured
_____ Why do I need TCP/IP protocol?
The Custrack Server uses Winsock to communicate with the Custrack Client in
order to manage the concurrent licensing of users on the system. We therefore
need an IP Address or Host Name for each client as well as for the server.
_____ Why do I get “Custrack has not signed you on
yet”?
Your Custrack Client is not communicating with the
Custrack
Server
- network connection to the server has failed, or TCP/IP Address or Host Name
has changed.
_____ Why do I get Runtime Errors?
Custrack
has encountered an unexpected error which we have not yet
catered for in our program. In order for us to fix the problem, please e-mail
or fax us a copy of the screen with the error on it – Press ALT + Print Scrn on
the keyboard and paste this into Word or body of E-Mail and we will correct the
problem in future releases.
_____ When should I use Access and when SQL Server?
Microsoft Access is not a client
server database. It therefore cannot support a large number of users (with
Custrack more than 5) and requires a very stable network and server environment.
Access is prone to corruption if the server crashes or a client crashes during
an update. It is therefore recommended that the server and every workstation run
from a UPS when Access is used. SQL Server overcomes these problems to a large
extent. |
